Geelong West Occasional Care

Geelong West Occasional Care

Geelong West Occasional Care Inc provides short periods of care for children under school age.

Families can access occasional care on either a Permanent or Casual basis. Parents use occasional child care for a variety of reasons, including casual, shift-work or part-time work; respite care; crisis and emergency care, study, shopping or attending appointments. Geelong West Occasional Care Inc is licensed by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development to care for up to 30 children aged 8 weeks to 6 years, and we are a unique, community not-for-profit incorporation.

GWOC (as we are affectionately known) allows families the flexibility to leave their children in an early childhood learning environment to socialise and interact with other children. The program is designed to meet the developmental needs of each child. It is stimulating to ensure continuing social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. Although children attend on an occasional basis only, written records are kept of individual development and parents receive regular verbal reports regarding their children.

GWOC educators are dedicated to providing children with a supportive, caring, stimulating and educational environment. We recognise each child is unique, with individual needs, rights and experiences. We actively promote the importance of the early years of life as a basis for a sound future.

Facilities…. The service accommodation consists of a large childcare room divided into different learning areas, such as construction, literacy & numeracy, art & craft, a home corner, library, puzzles and self-help activities etc. We utilise the large service kitchen (which is not accessible to children), as well as children’s toileting and nappy changing facilities, and a sleep area with 2 permanent cots. The outdoor playground area is well equipped with a large swing, timber fort with slide, a tanbark area for balancing and climbing, a beautiful grassed area for gross motor play and a large sand pit which offers a shaded area for imaginative play. All play areas are in full view of staff: ensuring ease of supervision.

Hours Of Operation… GWOC operates from 9am till 2pm each week day, during school terms.

Placements are available for children aged 8 weeks to 6 years, on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for 3, 4 or 5 hour sessions. Our “We Are Three” program operates on a Friday specifically for children aged 3 years and over. This session also offers the option to stay for 3, 4 or 5 hours.
